When I first walked into a school as a police officer more than 30 years ago, I had no idea it would define the course of my career. What began as a patrol assignment quickly became a lifelong mission to protect students, staff, and the communities that support them. From building trust with teenagers in the hallways to leading emergency planning efforts for hundreds of schools, my journey has been shaped by countless experiences—some challenging, others inspiring—that all reinforced one simple truth: school safety is about people first. Every plan I’ve written, every response I’ve led, and every training I’ve delivered has been grounded in that commitment.
